the Beach Boys : summer in paradise 1993 album

EDIT: MMM .... there are a whole bunch of people say they dont like it on various message boards, but to date it has already been downloaded 41 times !!!. Pitty nobody takes the time to tell me and other fans what they think of this 2nd version. Well if you like, please take the time and spare a minute to share your thoughts.

here it is. In my opinion a good album wih only 1 song that should had not been recorded called "Hot fun in the Summertime". Overall its a good album. This is the remixed 2nd version. Some say its a Mike Love deal cq album but i dont care. THERE was finnally a new beach boys album siince 1985. Carl is frequent on here as is Mike. Nice vocal from Al Jardine on Under the board walk. My favorite one is LaHaina Aloha with Mike Love and Carl Wilson sharing leads. Enjoy and please share your thougts about this album.

As a long standing fan of the Beach Boys I can't agree with those that choose to be very critical of this album. Sure, like most Beach Boys albums, it has its low points but SIP also has parts with a typical Beach Boys trade mark and therefore deserves a recognition from the fans. I defy a true fan of the Beach Boys not to like "Lahaina Aloha," where Carl's vocals are nearly as good as on "God Only Knows". Even the John Stamos version of "Forever" is a worthy tribute to Dennis. I don't own the UK version of this album, only the USA version I'm afraid, but there doesn't seem too much difference to me (except perhaps the title track)
Thanks for posting this version.

I love your blog!
What is it about Dutch that have such good blogs?
It seems every country have a style..like south america like to just putting up masses of different album with no notes at all..americans like too many UTube videos :) etc...
Dutch seem to love the rare special music like outakes and other rarities..especially sixties...
I am one of those that really quite likes this album..
Did you know it was almost all recorded on a 68k mac quadra only about 40MHz fast!..
By the way, there are two versions of this album with different takes and/or versios of songs..the US version, and, a european or UK version not sure which).
I have the US one..happen to know which one this is?
Cheers! Doccus

I didn't realize for years that there was a UK version of this album; I had listened to my Canadian copy pretty regularly for a couple years, then packed it away and pretty much forgot about it till a few years back when I uploaded the songs to my mp3 player. Even then I only realized how negative critical reaction had been to the album; I didn't really get the criticism myself, it's not the greatest BB album but it's not bad. It pretty much follows the same sound as Kokomo, Still Cruisin' and Wipeout (for better or worse) so it certainly shouldn't be a surprise to anyone following their music. Carl sounds great, Al and Bruce are fine but underused, Mike sounds like Mike and Brian's missed but it's hard to say how much (if any) different the album would have been with him anyways. I tracked down the UK version last year when I read a wikipedia article about it and the album is a bit different although not necessarily better. Island Fever's extra chorus with it’s “My baby can’t dance” doesn’t particularly help the song; it actually makes the song sillier. Strange Things Happen, other than being shorter doesn’t really sound all that different. Under the Boardwalk is improved by adding the “We’ll be having some fun..” part that was oddly missing in the original, but it’s still one of the weaker songs on the album. Forever’s remix sounds stronger than the US version by pumping up the background vocals; it’s considerably glossier than Dennis’ version but still pretty good. Summer in Paradise is the one I’m not sure about; I thought the original was fine, this version tries to give it more of a Byrds sound by having Roger McGuinn and his 12-string on it, as well as moving around the chorus and verses. I’ve also heard a third version, a live one that was on a compilation album Music for Other Mother Ocean 2; it’s far more upbeat and lively than the other two versions and it’s the best of the three. Of the remaining songs that are the same of both albums, they’re not bad; if you get a chance check out the wacky videos for Hot Fun in the Summertime and Summer of Love on Youtube. And as mentioned by the other posters, Lahaina Aloha is one of the best songs on the album. Hopefully history will be kinder to the Boys’ final album (I don’t count Stars & Stripes) than the critics over the last decade and a half.
